Self Care has been a buzz word over the past year.
Everywhere I look, people seem to be expressing self care as bubble baths, and face masks.
The reality is more raw. Self Care is about setting boundaries, saying no to things that don’t serve you or make you happy. Its about letting go of friends or family who are no longer in alignment with you. It is worth noting that not every friend or family member has your best interests at heart, and ultimately constantly trying to seek approval or praise is forever going to be detrimental to your own well-being. Self care is about protecting your energy, and your mental health. Its also about realising your potential, setting goals and having small daily wins.
Yes of course, a bubble bath is lovely. But so is waking up every morning knowing you have placed boundaries protecting your energy. It is about looking after yourself and recognising when you are close to burn out, and putting strategies in place to cope. Its about asking for help when you need it, and helping others if you are in a position to be able to do so. Nudge Cards were designed as a tool to be used as a coping strategy when your feeling overwhelmed.
Self care is not about having a tick list of spa treatments but about having a list of attributes you no longer tolerate and acting when somebody tries to cross your boundary.
In short, find what you love and do more of it. Find what you don’t like and remove it.
